In May, our Mother’s Day Luncheon raised $80,000 for our Modified Vehicle and Transport Project, a dream so close to our hearts.
STEP 1 – what we’re trying to achieve
The main aim of the project is to provide a volunteer-run vehicle to take away the transport hassles for palliative care families as they attempt to get to medical appointments and hospital visits.
However, more than this, it will also help them with any outings they wish to go on to create memory-making moments as a family.
We see this as taking one big step towards reducing the isolation felt by families in these circumstances and giving them opportunities to live for the moment.
STEP 2 – getting the right help
With funding under our belt, including the incredibly generous $20,000 grant from the Hospital Research Foundation towards the operations of the program, we have engaged the expert services of The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI) who will help us build the project and oversee it.
TACSI’s holistic approach will ensure this project is viable and sustainable in the long term, something we are so passionate about as we know this is going to be an incredibly valuable service for South Australian families for years to come.
STEP 3 – doing the groundwork
As part of the process, the team at TACSI will be tackling many things, including:
- Performing a needs assessment so we know exactly who will benefit most from this.
- Creating clear outcomes so we know what we are aiming for.
- Sourcing a vehicle and getting it correctly fitted so it will meet the needs of our families.
- Organising training of volunteers so we have the best people on the job.
- Working through privacy issues so everyone involved is protected.
- And so much more
STEP 4 – looking into the future
We envisage that the project will be up and running in 6 – 12 months. For something that will help the lives of South Australians for a lot longer than that, we are excited about putting in the work now to get this right.
We hope you are as thrilled as us to hear about the start of this project. Once again, we want to thank you for your contribution to this project and our cause.
Your support will go a long way to helping families ‘Live for the moment, Love for a Lifetime.’
If you have any questions, or you know a business that might be able to help us with securing an appropriate vehicle or signage, please get in contact. We’d love to hear from you.
